The new R/Python toggle appears under the Console tab now, as well as the Environment panel.

Posit, the company behind RStudio, has added a few updates to the latest version of the popular IDE. The most important of which can be a bonus in the data scientist workflow. Users now have a way to switch between R and Python much more easily in their projects.

Users can switch between R and Python via a toggle at the Console panel. The toggle is a dropdown menu that appears at the top left corner of the console.

A toggle switch in the environment panel has long existed, but the Console toggle simplifies the switching back and forth between langauges. Its allows for switching languages without having to activate Python through the Reticulate library manually.

The current version of RStudio will automatically activate Python when a Python programming script is run, yet the user must type quit to stop Python and revert back to R. Switching between R and Python at the console eliminates the step and simplifies workshop when the user has to go back and forth between language. The console toggle will also switch the environment pane from R to Python so that both the console and environment panes match the active console language.
