Hi Zaw -- there's an open source framework for the underlying VS Code structure that Positron was created from. Project IDX has a similar extension layout as well. Not sure of the history of that release, but I am betting so many developers are use to that layout that using it simplified any opened doors for additional features (great question BTW!)
