Medium’s New Payout Schedule
Partner Program Writers should pay attention to policy changes that impact how and when they are paid.
If you are a writer participating in the Medium Partner Program, you should pay attention to two major changes in the Term of Service that was implemented this month.
The first change is the payout date. When writers look at their earning page, they will see a new payout date. The payout date is on the 10th of the month instead of the eighth. In essence, writers are receiving a payout 2 days later from Medium than before.
The second change is the most influential. As of August 1st, Medium is adding a $10 minimum payout threshold. This means Referral Program writers will only receive a payout when the earnings from members reading their posts exceed the $10 threshold. Any amount below the threshold will be rolled over into the next disbursement date. The rollover will continue until the amount reaches the minimum $10 cutoff; The payment will be given at the next month’s payment.
I am not sure why the policy change occurred, but I have a hunch it is a way to eliminate smaller payments that may be costing Medium a platform expense. Asking for a threshold involving money being exchanged is not new. Many small business retailers, for example, will not…
