Part of the challenge is that we have way more channels for media beyond the limits of cable. Humanity has moved from cable with hundreds of channels w/ some overlap to a la carte approach to media where people decide what they want. To feed that a la carte bar, we have to fill it with programming. There is only so much talent and insight available, even when repeatedly schedule. It is more upon us to make better decisions on the information we take in.
