RStudio is changing its company name to Posit
At the Rconf 2022 conference RStudio made a major announcement of a rebranding. RStudio will be called Posit. The word “posit” means “put forth an idea into a discussion”. The team at RStudio realizes that the discussion on R programming and their IDE RStudio has shifted and changed. Their rebranding reflects this change.
RStudio founder JJ Allaire shared a blog post explaining the decision for the brand change. The new name Posit reflects an emphasis on open source development and the broadening role that RStudio and other supporting software have had over the years.
RStudio PBC was founded in 2011, built around the IDE software meant for R programming language. The RStudio IDE is used to support open source analysis of scientific work. The name change reflects the evolution the company has taken into a suite of cloud and software solutions since its inception, such as RStudio for the cloud and enterprise applications. The company has developed not only widely used libraries for R but they have also evolved RStudio features that permit a workflow with other platforms and developer tool providers.
